3 Ways to Overcome Your Anxiety of Lost Funds
Have you ever worried if your partners are tired of giving to you?
In fact, you are afraid that if your partners knew the truth, they would stop giving all together and every month you expect to see more and more partners drop off.
You begin to feel that your partners might even have “giving fatigue”. Somehow, they begrudgingly give each month, or even better, they’ve have forgotten about that mysterious monthly amount withdrawn from their bank account, and you just hope that they don’t think about it for a long, long time. What can you do to prevent this fear of giving fatigue?
3 WAYS TO OVERCOME YOUR ANXIETY OF LOST FUNDS:
1 - You’re Not Alone
At one time or another, every missionary has struggled with these thoughts and fears of not enough money to accomplish this mission. Not only are these thoughts a distraction to you while doing ministry, it’s taking your time away from accomplishing actual financial partnership. But here’s the reality:
"The beauty of blocking off time on your calendar for fundraising is that outside of that time - you don't have to think about fundraising! You can have time for other things in your life like family, rest, and work. It helps you put strong boundaries around each thing, causing more mental focus, and higher efficiency." -Jenny Karr
2 - Maintain Regular Communication
Make the communication you send to your financial partners as regular as possible. Focus on one thing that has happened since the last time you updated so you can keep it clear what’s happening. If you don’t have a regular schedule, make one! Block off the time, and manage your financial partners well, here’s a helpful graph that can show you where you are in your communication.
If not a lot has happened, we have advice here on the blessing of communicating the mundane parts of your ministry. When you communicate regularly, there’s no need to fear losing partners or those funds.
3 - Get Some Help
There’s no doubt it’s hard to juggle all the roles and responsibilities you have. So, ask for some help! Do you need a one on one fundraising coach? (We’re available!)
If it’s not us, find someone who will keep you accountable to reaching out to the part of your team that needs to hear from you the most, your financial partners. You don’t want them to go away, which means they want to hear from you. Find a friend or a team member and do whatever it takes to block off time to communicate regularly, then there’s no room left for anxiety over potentially lost funds.
