Focus on Partner Impact to Sustain Funding
When you communicate your ministry, be sure to focus the impact on how the donor is making a difference, by explaining the impact as what you're accomplishing together. This piece is important because relationships will always be the medium in which partnership occurs, but impact will always be the most sustainable motivation for a partnership. When you can properly explain how the donor's giving is making a difference, it will motivate the donor to continue giving.
RELATIONSHIPS WILL ALWAYS BE THE MEDIUM IN WHICH PARTNERSHIP OCCURS, AND IMPACT WILL ALWAYS BE THE MOST SUSTAINABLE MOTIVATION FOR A PARTNERSHIP.
As you continue your relationship with a donor, be specific every time you ask for finances. Tie your ask directly to the impact by thinking through these questions: How will this make a difference? What are the outcomes? What is the impact this funding could have on the lives of the people we're helping?
Please don't leave it up to your donor to figure out why and to what capacity they could be partnering with your organization. When you are specific about a giving amount, you're not leaving it up to the donor to try to figure it out. Even though you give them the freedom to decide what will be best for them, you can make suggestions on ways they can give and specifically ask them the easiest way for them.
