Personal Connections Will Fuel Your Fundraising
It's important to have a strategy for your fundraising efforts. We talk often about focusing on people in your fundraising; they are your true resource.
When talking specifically about fundraising strategies, I often hear, "Oh. So, just like sales." And my response is usually, "yes, they are very similar." However, the difference, is a big one.
IN SALES, THE ULTIMATE MOTIVATION IS MONEY; AND
IN FUNDRAISING FOR MINISTRY, THE MOTIVATION IS RELATIONSHIP.
I truly believe there is a natural outpouring of generosity when we focus on creating connections through relationship. Connections can be between people and God, financial partners and missionaries, compassionate people and those in need of compassion, and the natural outpouring will be generosity.
As a long-term fundraiser, this perspective should keep you from seeing people as targets or tasks, and allow you to see them as partners in ministry.
Romans 12:4-5 says, "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Value the Body of Christ as people valued by Christ.
